Of course, Port Fairy is still a thriving fishing port and you can’t visit without a stroll around Fisherman’s Wharf where you can experience the sight, sound and of course the smell of the fishing boards bringing their catch.  If you fancy a go yourself the you can have a go at sea fishing from the wharf, but you must first get a license from the Port Fairy Sports and Toy’s on Sackville street.

One of the attractions of Port Fairy is its stunning natural beauty with rich wildlife including Pelicans and Shearwaters.  The best time to for bird spotting is in the winter so bring your binoculars and camera to make the most of it.

  1. Thanks very much for the information here. I am planning a trip “down under” in the near future, and Port fairy sounds like a place that i might stay for a few days, especially if travelling between Melbourne and Perth.
