Why Australians Love Camping

Camping in Australia

Australians Love Camping

Camping is ingrained in the national culture of Australia. Whether it is school holidays or even just a long weekend, you will always see a training of 4x4s, caravans, motor homes, off road campers and camper trailers lining the highway full of groups and families ready to get away from everything and just get with nature and away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

This got me wondering why it is that this nation has such an affinity to the outdoors. Why Australians love camping so much? Here is what I came up with:

  1. The Australian Landscape Is Amazing
If you don’t live in Australia then you have most likely seen pictures or postcards. Australia is a natural paradise, from the vast outback that just begs to be explored to the marvellous beaches that rival the worlds best. With such a beautiful country, it is no wonder everyone wants to get out and amongst it.
  2. The Weather Is Perfect For Camping
Whether it is summer or winter, there is always somewhere that you can go camping. Known for it’s tropical temperatures, even in the coldest months there are still plenty of families ready to get their tent out and camp in the favourite national park. Just be careful going in summer as it is known for being very rainy – so keep an eye on the forecasts.
  3. It Suits The ‘Laid Back’ Spirit Of Australians
If they were to be honest, a good proportion of Australians would be more comfortable in the unofficial national dress code of a singlet and stubbies having a beer and a bbq that hob-nobbing it at some fancy hotel. The nation is known for having a very laid back attitude and this comes out in the way they want to holiday as well. They love to sit by a river and fish or take a relaxing mountain hike that be buying souvenirs at some busy capital city.

So as you can see, it is not surprising that Australia is a nation that loves camping. It is fitting with our culture and our location and most of all it can be done on the cheap.

If you have never given camping a chance or you just haven’t been in a very long time, then what is stopping you? Why not get out and experience nature, get away from the busyness of everyday life and spend quality time with your friends and family and see how relaxed you return.
